臺灣地區商業銀行合併效率性之分析：資料包絡分析法的應用
An Efficiency Analysis of Commercial Bank Mergers in Taiwan: Data Envelopment Analysis
摘要
在綜合銀行制度發展趨勢下，我國銀行合併勢在必行。本研究蒐集民國八十六年至八十八年間臺灣地區43家商業銀行的橫斷面與時間序列混合資料(panel data)，採用兩階段法，在第一階段裹，運用Tim Coelli設計之DEAP Version 2.1電腦軟體，利用DEA衡量各家銀行的經營效率，在第二階段裹，運用SAS套裝軟體，利用Tobit迴歸法探討銀行合併與銀行分行數對銀行經營效率的影響。實證的結果發現(1)大體上，銀行合併對銀行的技術效率、配置效率、及成本效率並未有提昇的作用；(2)銀行分行數對銀行的配置效率與成本效率有顯著降低作用，對銀行技術效率的提昇作用則不顯著。

The universal banking system has made it imperative for Taiwan banks to merge. This study employed the two-stage method to analyze the 1997-1999 data of 43 commercial banks in Taiwan. The first stage employed the DEAP Version 2.1 software of Tim Coelli, where BEA was used to measure the operating efficiencies of each bank. The second stage employed the SAS software, where the Tobit regression method was used to analyze the effects of bank mergers and bank branch on the operating efficiencies of banks. The empirical findings revealed that (1) generally, bank mergers tend to deteriorate the technical efficiency, allocative efficiency, and cost efficiency of banks. (2) The effect of bank branch on each bank's allocative and cost efficiencies was significantly lowered, but the improved effect on each bank's technical efficiency was insignificant.
