The aim of the study was to explore the nature of postpartum women's sexual concerns. A qualitative study for postpartum women's sexual concerns was developed. Nine participants were recruited through purposive sampling of outpatients registered in the antepartum clinic of a medical center in northern Taiwan. Data collection consisted of semi-structured interviews and tape recordings. A modified phenomenological methodology and narrative analysis of transcripts yielded four essential themes related to postpartum women's sexual concerns. These four themes were: (1)Desiring, but felling hesitant about, birth control, (2)Concern for sexual self-reconstruction, (3)Concerning for intimate relationship maintenance and accommodation, and (4)The sexual taboo of ”Doing the month” after childbirth. These women-centered findings of postpartum women's sexual concerns may provide direction and references for health professionals assisting clients in connection with women's sexuality during the early postpartum period.
