재미 한인 소설에 드러나는 정체성의 양상 연구

1세대와 1.5세대의 차이를 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 재미 한인 작가의 작품에 드러나는 재미 한인의 세대별 정체성 차이를 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 문단에서 호평을 받은 바 있고, 개별 작품과 작가 차원의 연구가 활발하게 진행된 강용흘의 「초당」과 이창래의 「영원한 이방인」을 대상으로 작품을 분석하였다. 대상 작품과 작가에 대한 연구사를 분석하고, 이들 작품에 드러난 재미 한인의 세대별 정체성의 차이를 작품을 통해 구체적으로 확인하였다. 이주 1세대와 1.5세대는 이주의 동기에서부터 차이가 있으며, 이로 인한 사고의 차이가 발생하게 된다. 이것은 작품에서 문화 서술의 양상에 있어 차이를 드러내게 된다. 또한 언어 사용에서도 세대별 사고의 차이를 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 차이를 살피는 것은 재미 한인 작품 연구의 외연을 확장할 수 있다는 의의를 지닌다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in the intergenerational identity of Korean-American artists in their works. To this end, the works of Kang Yong-heul, The Grass Roof, and Lee Chang-Rae, Native Speaker, were analyzed. Based on research into the works and the artists, the differences in the intergenerational identity of Korean-Americans revealed in these works were analyzed. The first and 1.5 generations of migrants differ in terms of their motivation for migration, resulting in differences in thinking that are revealed by differences in the cultural descriptions found in their work. In addition, generational differences in thinking in terms of language usage were also identified. Such analysis can expand the study of Korean-American works.
