Learning Objectives
To show the possibilities of the combined treatment of liver alveococcosis (LA) and role of ultrasonography at its stages.
-
Background
Hepatic Alveolar Echinococcosis (HAE) is a potentially dangerous natural focal parasitic disease, which is characterized by severe chronic progression and frequent recurrences. Although histopathologically a benign disease, HAE shows the characteristics of a malignant tumor with destructive tissue growth, invasion of adjacent organs, and distant dissemination. Currently there is only one method of radical treatment of НАЕ – surgical intervention with complete removal of parasitic lesion...

Imaging Findings/Procedure Details
17 patients with considerable distribution of LA were estimated by ultrasonography at the stages of treatment (pre-/intra-/postoperation). 11 (64,7%) patients were with primary alveococcosis, 6 (35,3%) with recurrence after earlier executed liver resections. One lobe was struck at 9 patients (5 after earlier liver resection); both lobes at the same time - 4; both lobes separately - 4. Vessels were involved in all cases. The volume of the surgery: liver resection with cryodestruction – 14...

Conclusion
Liver resection and cryodestruction of the remaining parasite tissue, especially, during repeated surgery, allows to reckon as a radical method of LA treatment. Ultrasonography in clinics where considerable experience of diagnostics and treatment of LA is saved up, is effective methods of diagnosis of this pathology at treatment stages.
