Potencial antimutagênico de extratos aquosos de gengibre

O gengibre é utilizado para prevenção e tratamento de doenças desde a antiguidade e, nas últimas décadas, estudos revelaram que a espécie possui compostos com atividade antioxidante, indicando possível atividade antimutagênica. Nesse contexto, este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a atividade antimutagênica de extratos aquosos do tipo infuso e decocto (EAI e EAD), de gengibre por meio dos protocolos (pré-tratamento (PI), pós-tratamento (PII) e tratamento simultâneo (PIII)) com o teste Allium cepa e, consequentemente, seu potencial como alimento funcional e/ou nutracêutico. O EAI não exerceu efeito significativo, enquanto o EAD teve efeito significativo nos três protocolos testados, com efeito mais evidente em PII e PIII. O EAD de gengibre apresentou atividade desmutagênica e bioantimutagênica. Os resultados permitem inferir que o EAD de gengibre apresenta atividade antimutagênica, contudo, são necessárias pesquisas que realizem a identificação dos compostos com estas propriedades e a ação dos mesmos em células animais, para que assim possa ser confirmado seu potencial como alimento funcional e/ou nutracêutico e também para produção de medicamentos para o tratamento de doenças resultantes de processos mutacionais.
