Abstract:
In 2007 excavations were undertaken in a transect on land off Chapel Street, to the rear of Drury Lane in Rugby. The zone nearest to the former historic street frontages was heavily truncated by post-medieval cellars and pits. A number of pits were recorded to the rear of the site including waterlogged deposits and wooden features. A number of wells were identified and appeared to signify the focus of industrial activity. A number of ditched boundaries, possibly plot boundaries, were also identified. The majority of features appear to date to the 17th or 18th centuries, though some 13th to 16th century activity was also identified.
