Description

The material highlights the face, personality and work of the priest-poet Alexie Mateevici in Bessarabian journalism and visual art in

the second decade of the 21st century. Having become "the most important singer of the Romanian language", Mateevici stands out in history with his gentle face "like that of the saints from the icons of the past" (N. Iorga). His image becomes a cult for artists, so we find his face in painting, sculpture, journalism and, directly, in literature. The author reviews the most representative works that bring
the priest-poet back to us in the visual arts, at the same time sketching the moral face of Alexie Mateevici, drawing attention to the fact that even today the poet is a living presence in the socio-political life of Bessarabia . Written for the 135th anniversary of the birth of Alexie Mateevici, the article also highlights the valuable collection of pieces of the House-Museum "A. Mateevici" from Zaim, being also an appreciation of the sincere effort of journalists, researchers and artists who, in the peak moments of the history of this land, knew they had to turn to Alexie Mateevici - "The Prophet whom weeternally miss".
