Opening up the research lifecycle

  • 1. Know-Center

Description

The currently transforming science landscape of scholarly publication has highlighted the need for interaction between all key stakeholders engaged in the research lifecycle and unveiled new tools that support the Open Science paradigm.

This new environment requires also new collaboration and sharing tools. OpenUP, an EU funded project, is set out to contribute to the discourse of Open Science by (1) identifying ground-breaking mechanisms, processes and tools for peer-review for all types of research results, (2) exploring innovative dissemination mechanisms with an outreach aim towards businesses, education, and society as a whole, and (3) analyzing a set of novel indicators that assess the impact of research results and correlate them to channels of dissemination. OpenUP engages with all stakeholders via a series of outreach events, and the creation of an OpenUP Hub, a collaborative web based Knowledge Base that hosts a catalogue of open tools/services, methodologies, best practices from various disciplines, success stories, reports.

OpenUP Hub (openuphub.eu) is an open, dynamic and collaborative knowledge environment that systematically captures, organizes and categorizes research outcomes, best practices, tools, and guidelines relevant to review-dissemination-assessment phases of the research lifecycle through the prism of Open Science. It is an integrated solution that puts the scientific community in the center to support to its needs. It primarily addresses all key stakeholders engaged in the research lifecycle?: researchers, young scholars, educators, librarians, publishers and Research & Innovation (R&I) project members. It also actively engages the rest of its important stakeholders that have a “stake” in the research lifecycle: Open Science advocators, policy makers, funders, general public and representatives from the industry.

The presentation plans to introduce the OpenUP Hub as an interactive tool which can be incorporated into a variety of curriculum, directly or indirectly dealing with Open Science activities, as an open educational resource.
