Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the actual workforce experiences of female trainers
Method: A total of 7 female trainers were interviewed using an inducteiv reasoning approach over a period of three months. Qualitatively analyze framework by phenomenological interpretation was used to analyze the content of the actual workforce experiences of the female traienrs. Experiential data were categorized by the experiential themes from the phenomenological perspective. To analyze the collected data, content analysis, thematic analysis and triangulation methods were also used for the trustworthy purpose.
Results: The findings revealed that the trainers experienced in the competitive and male-dominated sport industry. Excessive competition in a professional position as an individual taxpayer made them experience employment instability and frequent occupational turnover rates. This study also found that female trainers lived in the shade of ‘emotional labor. They tried to treat customers with consistent emotion or attractive manner. Further, they felt emotional fatigue by the stress of keeping their body in shape and by the expectancy on women’s status in society. The most noticeable aspect of their work experience as female trainers was the experience of discrimination, and specifically, discrimination under the name of women. They felt fearful of the ‘career discontinuity,’ as they get married or have a baby. And the fear increased dread by the ‘social prejudices’ that a woman is more responsible for parenting than a man. Furthermore, these types of situations occurred more to the female trainers who were in a high administrative position.
Conclusion: In summary, the findings provide a framework for understandin gthe reality of our society towards the female labors and the meaningful behaviors of the individuals in the male-dominated sport field.
