7년 전쟁(1756-1763)은 여러모로 프랑스사의 결정적 전환점이었다. 그러나 프랑스의 역사 연구와 국가 기억은 오랫동안 7년 전쟁의 치욕적인 패배를 18세기 역사의 영광스러운 연대기 속에 묻어버리고자 했다. 이제 새로운 역사적 관점이 부상하면서 이 “최초의 세계대전”의 전지구적 파급 효과와 전쟁에 결부된 문화적 갈등에 관한 새로운 연구들이 출현하고 있다. 이 글은 “프랑스를 만든 나날” 시리즈의 하나로서 7년 전쟁과 1763년 파리 조약이 프랑스와 프랑스의 근대 초 식민제국의 역사를 어떻게 바꾸어 놓았는지, 그리고 이 전지구적 투쟁에 참여한 나라와 집단들이 7년 전쟁과 그 결과를 어떻게 서로 다른 방식으로 경험하고 기억했는지 보여준다.

The Seven Years’ War(1756-1763) was a critical turning point of history in many senses. However, both French historiography and national memory have neglected and disregarded this disgraceful defeat. Now, the rise of new historical perspectives awakens new interest in this “first global war” in terms of its global ramifications and cultural conflicts involved in the war efforts. As part of the special series of “Days that Made France”, this article examines how the Seven Years’ War and the treaty of Paris in 1763 shaped the history of France and the French early modern empire, and how the countries and groups in conflict experienced and remembered the war and its end in their own ways.

La guerre de Sept Ans(1756-1763) a été un tournant décisif de l’histoire à bien des égards. Cependant, tant l’historiographie française que la mémoire nationale ont négligé et ignoré cette défaite honteuse. Maintenant, l’émergence de nouvelles perspectives historiques éveille un nouvel intérêt pour cette “première guerre mondiale” en termes de ramifications mondiales et de conflits culturels impliqués dans les efforts de guerre. Dans le cadre de la série spéciale des “Les Journées qui ont fait la France”, cet article examine comment la guerre de Sept Ans et le traité de Paris en 1763 ont façonné l’histoire de la France et de l’empire français, et comment les pays et les groupes en conflit ont vécu et commémoré la guerre et sa fin à leur manières.
