A Study on Academic Self-efficacy, Self-confidence and Creative Problem-solving Ability of Nursing Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the degree and relationship of academic self-efficacy, self-confidence, and creative problem solving ability of nursing students, and examine the factors affecting creative problem-solving ability. The subjects of this study were 193 students enrolled in the nursing department of two universities located in J and K city. Data were collected from November 1 to 20, 2021, using self-report questionnaire. The data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 21.0. In academic self-efficacy, there was a statistically significant difference in motivation for nursing, interest in fundamentals of nursing skill lessons, and attitude to participate in self-practice. The self-confidence showed statistically significant differences in motivation for nursing, interest in fundamentals of nursing lessons, attitude to participate in self-practice. The creative problem-solving ability showed statistically significant differences in gender, religion, motivation for nursing, interest in fundamentals of nursing lessons, attitude to participate in self-practice, attitude to participate in fundamentals of nursing skill lessons, and self-practice participation time. Regression analysis showed that the factor affecting creative problem-solving ability are academic self-efficacy, self-confidence, attitude to participate in self-practice, motivation for nursing. In order to demonstrate creative problem-solving ability fundamentals of nursing skill lessons, it provides opportunities for repeated learning such as class design for cultivating active learning ability for basic academic performance postures and skills and self-practice for improving performance confidence.
