중화권 영화에 대한 내셔널 알레고리 해석을 통해 본 박찬욱의 <헤어질 결심>

본고는 지난 수십 년간 중화권 영화 가운데 내셔널 알레고리 독법이 학술적으로 잘 적용될 수 있는 일부 작품을 검토한 뒤, 이를 바탕으로 최근 한국 영화인 <헤어질 결심>을 분석한다.
본고의 목표는 다음의 두 가지이다. 우선, 본고는 서구 제1세계가 아닌 중국과 한국 사회가 산출한 대중서사 가운데 걸작의 칭호를 붙일만한 작품은 설령 매우 현란한 모더니즘의 외양을 띄고 있더라도 그 핵심 서사 구조는 내셔널 알레고리 독법이 수행될 수 있음을 비평적으로 증명하고자 한다. 아울러 제임슨의 내셔널 알레고리 개념을 시기적으로 이어지는 다수의 중국과 한국 영화에 대한 독해에 적용해 봄으로써, 서구 제1세계와는 다른 역사와 사회 구조에서 산출된 중국과 한국의 문예 작품의 비교 분석에 적합한, 나름의 일관된 ‘정치적 독법’을 제시하는 것이다.
제2장에서는 왕가위의 <중경삼림>(1994)과 <2046>(2004)에 대한 내셔널 알레고리 해석사를 검토하고 필자 나름의 내셔널 알레고리 독법을 추가하였다.
제3장에서는 장예모의 <영웅>(2002)과 <5일의 마중>(2014)에 대한 내셔널 알레고리 해석사를 검토하고 필자 나름의 내셔널 알레고리 독법을 추가하였다.
제4장에서는 증국상의 <소년시절의 너>(2019)의 일부 장면에 대한 내셔널 알레고리 독법을 시도하였다.
제5장에서는 앞의 논의를 바탕으로 박찬욱의 <헤어질 결심>(2022)에 대한 내셔널 알레고리 독법을 시도하였다. 이 작품의 핵심 서사 구조는 현 시국 남북 관계에 대한 정치적 은유로 해석될 수 있고, 여기에는 남북통일의 기본 원칙과 구체적 방식을 둘러싼 세대 갈등의 요소가 은닉되어 있음을 논증하였다.
결론에서는 박찬욱 작품 속 내셔널 알레고리 작동방식의 특징 및 그 의의를 중화권 영화 및 그 감독들과의 비교를 통해 간략히 검토하였다.

This paper examines some of the Chinese films of the past decades to which the national allegory interpretation can be applied academically well, and based on this, analyzes the recent Korean film .
The goal of this paper is the following two. First of all, this paper critically proves that among the popular narratives produced by Chinese and Korean societies rather than the Western First World, the works worthy of the title of masterpiece can be read as a national allegory for their core narrative structure, even if they have a very flamboyant modernist appearance. In addition, by applying Jameson"s concept of national allegory to the reading of a large number of Chinese and Korean films that continue in time, this paper presents my own consistent ‘political reading’ suitable for comparative analysis of Chinese and Korean literary works produced in a different history and social structure from the Western First World.
In Chapter 2, the history of national allegory interpretation on Wong Kar-wai"s (1994) and <2046>(2004) was reviewed, and the author"s own national allegory interpretation was added.
In Chapter 3, the history of national allegory interpretation on Zhang Yimou"s (2002) and (2014) was reviewed, and the author"s own national allegory interpretation was added.
In Chapter 4, I attempted to read the national allegory for some scenes in Derek Tsang"s (2019).
In Chapter 5, based on the discussion above, I attempted to read Park Chan-wook"s (2022) as a national allegory. The core narrative structure of this work can be interpreted as a political metaphor for North and South Korean relations in the current situation, and it is argued that elements of generational conflict over the basic principles and concrete plans of North and South Korean unification are hidden in it.
In the conclusion, the characteristics and significance of the national allegory in Park Chan-wook"s works were briefly reviewed through comparison with Chinese films and their directors.
