정원 식재 디자인의 구성 요소 특성 고찰

19세기 거트루드 지킬(Gertrude Jekyll) 정원의 색채 이미지 활용을 중심으로

전반적으로 조경 분야에서 종래의 수목 위주의 식재를 탈피한 변화된 디자인이 요구되고 있다. 기존의 국내 정원 디자인을 살펴보면, 인위적으로 다듬어 조형미를 나타낸 형태의 디자인이 유행하였으나, 최근 들어 자연 상태 그대로 자란 디자인이 선호되는 경향이 강하다. 이를 배경으로 19세기의 인상주의에 영감을 받은 화가이자, 식물의 색채 이미지를 활용하여 디자인한 거트루드 지킬(Gertrude Jekyll)의 정원에 주목하였다. 그래서 거트루드 지킬이 조성한 정원을 시대적, 공간적 배경으로 색채 이미지를 중심으로 한 식물 식재 디자인의 구성 요소를 고찰한다. 이에 본 연구는 국내에 적합한 자연주의 식재 디자인의 이론적인 바탕과 방향성을 제시하는 데 의의가 있다. 그러나 해외의 사례를 바탕으로 한 연구에 있어, 국내의 전반적인 식물에 대한 분류 및 기후와 토양을 비롯한 생태적인 환경과의 적용 차이를 고려하지 못한 점에 대한 한계가 있다.

In general, the landscape field calls for a changed design that takes away from conventional arbor-oriented plants. If you look at the existing domestic garden designs, designs that are artificially trimmed and shaped have been popular, but recently designs that have grown in their natural state have tended to be preferred. Against this backdrop, he noted the garden of Gertrude Jekyll, an impressionist of the 19th century and designed using color images of plants. Therefore, the garden created by Gertrude Jekyll is considered for the elements of plant and plant material design centered on color image as an era and spatial background. This research is meaningful in presenting the theoretical basis and direction of naturalistic plant design suitable for the country. But in research based on cases abroad, there are limitations to the classification of the overall plants in the country and the failure to take into account differences in application with the ecological environment, including climate and soil.
