ABSTRACT

I have wanted to direct The Seagull from the first time I detected a generation gap. I wanted to “take a shot,” to show that Treplev is the clear-headed one and that Arkadina is the silly woman. However, gradually everything became complicated. And now I have moved away from this initial thought. We are still going to play it from Treplev’s point of view, though not the Treplev in the play, but the Treplev of life today.

Treplev is outwardly languid. He is inactive in conversation. A feeling of complete loneliness.
