ABSTRACT

Preamble Mothers, daughters, sisters-the female representatives of the nation-demand to be constituted as a national assembly. Considering that ignorance, neglect or scorn for the rights of woman are the sole cause of public miseries and governmental corruption, they have resolved to affirm in a solemn declaration the natural, unchangeable and sacred rights of woman. This declaration, being constantly present to all members of the social body, will always remind them of their rights and duties. It will enable women’s acts of power, and those of powerful men, to be judged at all times against the aim of all political institutions and, accordingly, to gain greater respect. By being founded on simple and incontestable principles, female citizens’ demands will henceforth tend always to maintain the constitution, good morals, and the happiness of all.
