ABSTRACT

An integral part of developing Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) statements is to determine the most important (key) topics that need to be covered and map them on a timeline of when they would be addressed during the course. The Outcome Statement Builder tool allows outcome statements to be written and realigned among levels, automatically realigning the outcome codes and statements. SLO documents can range in length from two to five pages, depending on the nature of the course content. Mathematics and chemistry, for example, are two of the disciplines that could have many sLOs. The verb in the outcome statement dictates the action that is expected in order to accomplish the anticipated outcome. The top three categories (levels) of the taxonomy, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, are typically associated with the terms higher order thinking skills and CT.
