ABSTRACT

This chapter helps the students to find ways to meet people with similar interests and make new friends. It looks at some of the strategies needed to create and maintain a friendship. The chapter helps the students to understand what makes a good friend and how to be a good friend in return, it is time to figure out where to make the connections, and how to meet new neurotypical friends as well as other kids with Asperger’s syndrome or Nonverbal Learning Disorder. Finding classmates with common interests and talking with them about those shared interests is the first step on the path to friendship. With the pressure of “in-the-moment” competition eliminated, it can be easier to relax, have fun, and even form friendships with other kids who like the same sports. Summertime can be a tough time of year to make new friends or stay connected with old friends.
