ABSTRACT

As the authors of this text, our intention is to bring the sacred back into schooling; to do so, we use contemplative rituals of awakening to lead us toward living justice. In Chapter 1, we set the scene of education today and note the differences between teaching as profession and teaching as transgression, between the institution of schooling and the nature of learning, between oppression and liberation, and we extend an invitation to our readers to reimagine education with us. We see the future of teaching as holistic and spiritual in nature, repurposing our classrooms and shifting the relationship we have with ourselves, knowledge, and one another.
