ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author want to flip the traditional GVV focus to direct greater attention to those in Larry's position, the intended audiences of those voicing their values, what the author refer to in the chapter as listeners. Gentile has offered some initial thoughts and insights on what she has called "Listening for Values". There are opportunities to revise/expand existing curricular materials, as well as develop new materials that emphasize the listener's perspective. Nomadic has recently introduced into their GVV training a module focused on "Listening for Values" that offers trainees the opportunity to learn more about active listening in the workplace. Organizational leaders in particular play a critical role in developing organizational practices and identifying, communicating, and reinforcing organizational values that align with the goals of GVV and explicitly encourage voice and active listening at all levels of the organization.
