ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a critical overview of the role of economic thinking and ideology in global development. Working through a series of vital influences – including globalisation; the turn from Keynesian to neoliberal economics; shifting flows of people, goods, and capital; as well as the informal or shadow economy – the discussion focuses on the everyday implications and effects of development policy and practice.
