ABSTRACT

India and Nepal share many water bodies and rivers due to contiguity. The two countries have also entered into many water-related agreements or treaties. Most of those agreements or treaties have been criticised by the people from Nepal. India is being criticised by a section of Nepali for exploiting Nepal’s water resources. This chapter discusses major water agreement and treaties between India and Nepal and their repercussions. It also looks at the major Hydroelectric Power (HEPs) projects between the two countries. Finally, it examines the reasons for growing opposition to India-assisted projects in Nepal.
