ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter looks into some of the critical themes in the context of learning-oriented assessment (LOA) and the outstanding issues that should be addressed for its successful implementation. It also provides an overview of the different chapters included in this volume. The volume is classified into two main sections: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part discusses issues related to the development of LOA, underlying theoretical frameworks, and other relevant themes. The second part offers some experiences for using LOA in local contexts and the unique LOA challenges and potentials in different parts of the world.
