ABSTRACT

In this chapter, researchers from the team describe CUNY-NYSIEB's (City University of New York-New York State Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals) approach to designing the pedagogical materials associated with the project—including articles, guides, videos, topic briefs, webinars, and professional development activities, all of which currently live at www.cuny-nysieb.org. The materials were created in response to areas of need identified by partner teachers. In keeping with the collaborative spirit of the project, materials were also created with input, examples, and contributions from those educators on the ground. CUNY-NYSIEB's materials brought awareness about translanguaging to local schools, helping them develop sustainable practices to support emergent bilingual students and their families. In addition to sparking fire locally, as they were made widely accessible on the internet, they fulfilled a desire of audiences far beyond New York City and State.
