ABSTRACT
Because of its pervasive influence on ethical reasoning among doctors and other healthcare professionals, the Hippocratic tradition is analyzed from historical and ethical perspectives. This chapter discusses the evolution of professional codes, as well as their limitations for resolving moral uncertainties and conflicts.
