ABSTRACT

The frame rate of the footage is an important and interesting aspect of the preliminary assessment of footage. The research suggests that the higher the frame rate, the more information analysts can gain from footage regarding gait. The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences has a register of practitioners who have successfully completed the competency testing process in forensic gait analysis. It might also be worth speaking to other agencies or teams that have used forensic gait analysis to get an insight into the experiences. Once the preliminary assessment of the footage has been completed and the task agreed, confirm the requested task in writing with the commissioning agency to ensure both parties fully understand the question being asked and the final product required. In forensic gait analysis, information which could inadvertently introduce cognitive bias can come from reading background case information or from seeing both questioned and reference footage before undertaking the analysis of features of gait.
