ABSTRACT
A core component of a meaningful evaluation process is significant collaboration between the evaluator and key stakeholders. In order for the collaborative process to be effective, in must be rooted in a foundation of trust and understanding. Cultural responsiveness is the glue that holds the foundation of trust and understanding together. This chapter explores the process of culturally responsive evaluation within the context of a safety-based training course for the forestry industry in New Zealand. The reader is engaged in a conversation concerning how to adapt evaluation processes and concepts with culturally different individuals and communities. This chapter explores the use of Kaupapa Māori research and evaluation practices and approaches to foster a meaningful evaluation process that affirms the culture of the stakeholders and facilitates a tangible and inclusive final report.
