Virtual libraries in Nigeria: dream or reality

Abstract

With the evolution of Information Communication Technology, libraries in the industrialized nations have experienced significant changes in information glut and these have facilitated the growth of “libraries without walls” This paper looks at the development of virtual libraries in Nigeria, its roles and addresses how it can help educational development in the country. A proposal for an ideal national virtual library system for the enhancement of national development is put forward, problems that would likely confront such proposal are examined and possible solutions are proffered.
