Introduction

Internet is the global “network of networks” and intercloud is the global “cloud of clouds”.

Like internet was coined for networking, Intercloud is a new terminology for cloud computing.

Earlier internet was used to deliver messages from one person to the other person. It was a simple advancement, but now it has gone to the next level. More and more service providers are constructing data centers which are popularly called as cloud computing. Intercloud seems to be the next incarnation of time sharing and distributed computing.

Discussion

Internet

Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks. Vint Cerf is often known as the father of internet. It was started in way back in 1960’s. It serves billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, government networks that are linked by electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The internet carries extensive information and services such as hypertext, documents of World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support email.

Cloud computing

Cloud computing is the use of computing resources (Hardware & software) that are delivered as a service over a network (typically the internet). It is called cloud computing because it uses a cloud shaped symbol for internet. Cloud computing entrusts remote services with a user’s date, software, computation.

You can ask a question

Are we cloud computing?

Yes if you are

1. Downloading music

2. Updating Facebook

3. Searching Google

4. Making Hotel reservations

5. Online Banking

And many more

Benefits of cloud computing

1. Pay as you use

2. Virtualized and dynamic

3. Agile deployment

4. Utility based time sharing model

5. Low total cost ownership

6. High level computingC

7. Secure storage and management

8. Location independent

9. Scalability and sustainability

10. 24/7 support

Intercloud

Welcome to the future of computers. The intercloud is an interconnected global “cloud of clouds”

It is an extension of internet “network of networks”.

Kevin Kelly in 2007 first used the term intercloud and then it became popular in 2009. It is used to describe the data centre of the future. More and more service providers are constructing data centers which are popularly known as cloud computing. Intercloud is the interoperability among varied implementation of these clouds. Intercloud according to Vint Cerf seems to be the next incarnation of time sharing and distributed computing. Cloud computing has emerged as one of the latest technologies for delivering on demand advanced service over internet. Various cloud providers have developed data centers which are spread at several geographical locations and are available for utilization from internet users.

However as the number of resource consumers are increasing day by day the more and more modern technological advancements are happening.

The intercloud is the term coined to describe the interconnected clouds that would enable cloud computing services to be delivered to customers with more ease and flexibility. Currently various service providers offer cloud computing services from their particular clouds and customer can select the service they need.

Example of this is software as a service (Saas) or data storage, application from different provider.

Uses of intercloud

When we are away from home we may be able to book into a hotel and check our mail from the local computer available. But can we download or check the data required, currently with interclouds and cloud computing it is possible as the data is stored in any one of the clouds which can be anywhere geographically situated. Another major advantage is place and the investment required by many companies can be remarkably reduced as it can be borrowed temporarily. With help of intercloud one can communicate between the clouds such as Google or Amazon or Microsoft or any such similar service providers.

It helps to download data at any point of time.

It is aptly can be termed Cloud today–intercloud tomorrow. Intercloud might be the way of the future but it requires lot of challenges.

Mobile cloud computing (MCC)

Mobile cloud computing is an amalgam of three foundation namely

1. Mobile computing

2. Cloud computing

3. Networking.

Application are run on a remote cloud server and then sent to the user. Because of the advanced improvement in mobile browsers and thanks to Apple, Google, over the past couple of years nearly every mobile has suitable browser. Several operators such as Vodafone, Orange and Verizon have started cloud computing service.

Conclusion

There has been remarkable improvement since the invention of networking and internet to cloud computing today. Gone are the days when any communication was carried out through the phone or postal couriers, today it is instantaneous ,we are able to instantly download in the mobile either it is the train ticket or the music or the pictures. So it can aptly be said yesterday internet, Cloud today and Intercloud tomorrow. Intercloud could be the way of the future.
