This chapter will focus on the various genres of science writing, the importance of promoting learners' ability to communicate their understanding and how this improves thinking. A range of different strategies to enable learners to demonstrate what they know will be developed. These will not focus on what can be copied from the board after a shared discussion! Although the modelling of writing is a key feature in learning how to write, copying does not develop a learner's ability to think. Approaches will be developed alongside examples of learners' work.
