Joo Chul Ihn, Poong Taek Kim and Chang Pyo Bae

    Abstract

Fracture through the body of the hamate is very rare. Milch was the first to describe this fracture in 1934. The hamate may be fractured through its articular surface, the hook of the hamate, the proximal pole and the body. We experienced a case of facture through the body of the hamate associated with dorsally displaced distal fragment with 4th and 5 th metacarpal bone. One Weeks later after subsidence of swelling, close reduction was performed and a long arm cast was applied with three point fixation for 4 weeks. On removal of the cast, there was no tenderness in the wrist and active exercise was started. Within 6 weeks, the patient had a painless wrist with full flexion, extension and good strength.
