대중가요 노랫말을 저급한 통속 문화의 일환으로 바라보는 시각이 있다. 대중가요의 노랫말을 단순히 곡조를 전달하는 수단으로만 간주하기 때문이다. 이 논문은 노랫말을 문화사적 맥락에서 당대 대중들의 정서가 문학적으로 구현된 양상이라는 관점을 취한다. 이런 입장에서 80년대 이후 대중들의 폭넓은 인기를 누려온 그룹 들국화의 노랫말을 시학적으로 분석하고자 한다. 들국화의 1집 앨범은 한국 음악사의 기념비적인 음반이라고 할 수 있다. 전문가들이 꼽은 한국 대중음악사 100대 명반 중 1위를 차지할 정도로 이들의 문화사적 가치는 남다르다. 이들의 노래는 음악적 참신함이나 보컬 전인권의 가창력뿐만 아니라 노랫말이 던져주는 정서적 감염력에도 주목을 해야 한다. 들국화 노랫말을 시학적으로 분석해야 할 필요성이 여기에 있다. 들국화의 노랫말은 시학적으로 여러 가지 의미를 담고 있다. 첫째, 일상의 전복을 요구하고 있다. < 사랑한 후에 >는 제목만으로는 실연에 빠진 사람의 심정을 노래하고 있는 듯이 보인다. 일상에 빠져 있는 현대의 대중들에게 과거의 화려했던 추억을 되새기며 일상의 전복을 요구하고 있는 노래이다. 들국화의 대표곡 < 행진 >도 그러하다. 둘째, 반어와 역설을 통한 저항을 담고 있다. 들국화 노랫말의 중요한 미학 중 하나는 반어와 역설이다. < 제주도 푸른 밤 >이나 < 축복합니다 >, < 제발 > 등의 노랫말은 반어와 역설로 이루어졌다. 이는 1980년대 당시 엄혹했던 시대에 대한 저항을 지향하고 있다. 셋째, 상처와 치유이다. 리드보컬 전인권은 마약 투약으로 여러 차례 투옥되었다. 상처를 입은 그가 노래한 < 걱정 말아요 그대 >는 상처입은 대중들에게 위로와 치유의 메시지를 담고 있다. 오늘날 문학교육의 인적 대상이 되는 학생들은 문자 언어보다 음성 언어에 더 익숙해져있다. 음성언어로 전달되는 대중가요 노랫말의 시학적 의미를 재조명화는 연구가 필요한 것도 이런 이유에서이다.
Pop lyrics are generally considered a form of vulgar folk culture. In the deeper level, however, the lyrics do not simply serve as a recreational tool. In a broad historico-cultural perspective, pop lyrics are an embodiment of the sentiments and experiences of the general public. This paper proposes to analyze the song lyrics of a Korean rock band ``Deulkulwha`` focusing on their poetic function. The rock band was very popular in 1980s, and one of their albums once ranked top in Korea Pop 100. In their songs, lyrics are in a way more important than the song itself. The poetic aspects of the lyrics are portrayed in various ways. First, the lyrics attempt to overturn anything matter-of-fact or routine. For example, < After the Love > is not simply a love song; rather, it shakes and turns upside down the confident psyche of modern-day Everyman in his daily life. Second, the lyrics function as a form of resistance. In the songs < Bless You >, < Blue Night in Jeju > and < Please >, the lyrics, with their deeply ironic and paradoxical import, resist the rigorous regime of the 1980`s in a roundabout way. Third, the meaning of the lyrics are in many ways about healing. In < Do Not Worry, My Dear >, for example, the speaker suffers from a mental wound, yet he tries to convey a message of comfort and healing to the public. Today, the younger people are more familiar with spoken language than with written language. The lyrics of popular songs are in the realm of spoken language. Hence, pop lyrics can serve as a useful pedagogical tool for the young people, who are the subject of literary education. For this reason the poetic significance of pop lyrics cannot be too much stressed.
