이 논문은 조선시대의 地方官과 관련된 紀錄畵를 대상으로 그림의 유형과 특징, 그리고 시각 자료로서의 특성을 살펴 본 것이다. 지방관이 참여한 기록화에는 人名을 기록한 座目과 제작 동기를 적은 跋文 등이 함께 수록되어 있어, 제작 배경에 대한 정보를 제공해 준다. 또한 기록화는 문헌기록만으로 알 수 없었던 지방관의 다양한 생활 풍속에 대한 이해를 가능하게 한다.
본고에서는 먼저 지방관이 참여한 기록화를 類型別로 분류하고 대표적인 사례를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이는 기록화의 전체 현황을 개관하고 종합적인 시각을 갖게 하는데 큰 도움이 될 것이다. 유형별 고찰에서는 지방관의 기록화를 ‘契會圖’, ‘到任ㆍ宴會圖’, ‘행사기록화’, ‘平生圖’, ‘肖像畵’ 등 5개의 주제로 분류하여 살펴보았다. 이 주제에 속한 그림들은 대부분 지방관의 기록화에서만 볼 수 있는 사례이며, 지방관이 행하는 관행적인 사안, 공식적인 행사, 그리고 비공식적인 회합 등에 해당하는 내용들이 그림으로 그려졌다.
계회도는 지방관의 人的 연대와 그 기반을 넓히고 공고히 하는 계회의 산물이며, 도임ㆍ연회도를 통해서는 구체적인 생활풍속 자료와 고증을 위한 자료를 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 임무와 행사를 주제로 한 기록화는 지방관의 지위와 역할을 엿볼 수 있게 하고, 평생도와 초상화는 일반적으로 기록화에 범주에 두지 않지만, 지방관과 관련하여 전거와 근거가 분명한 가운데 제작된 것이기에 함께 다루었다.
본고의 마지막 장에서는 영남지역 지방관의 기록화를 살펴보았다. 여기에 속한 사례는 수적으로 많지 않지만, 좌목과 인물 정보가 뚜렷하며, 지방관이 맺은 人的 유대관계를 돈독히 하고자 한 취지의 기록화 혹은 기념화이다. 그림의 내용은 養老宴, 試官들의 계회, 巡視와 친목 모임, 그리고 司馬試 榜會 등으로 중앙이 아닌 지방에서 이루어진 사안들을 그린 기록화라는 점에서 주목 할 만하다. 또한 謙齋 鄭敾(1676~1759)이 河陽縣監과 淸河縣監을 지내면서 남긴 그림을 통해 지방관으로서의 예술적 성취라는 측면을 살펴보았다.
지방관의 기록화는 우리나라의 기록화의 전체 범주를 매우 다양하고 풍부하게 하고, 지방관의 公ㆍ私的인 생활과 주변 風俗들을 이해할 수 있는 유용한 자료이다. 지방관의 기록화는 만남과 인연, 친분과 결속을 중시한 조선시대 관료사회의 관행적인 측면과 視覺化된 기록이라는 측면에서 그 특징을 다각적으로 조명할 수 있는 자료이다.
This study aims to look into the characteristics and contents of record paintings related to local governor as well as its visual characteristics. As record paintings that local governor participated in include information of pictures, Jowamok(座目), and questions, its production time, participators, and its motivation to create are grasped. It is available to examine local governor's various aspects and traditional factors that were hard to know only through literary records. This study aims to examine total record paintings local governor participated in. This helped to survey and comprehensively understand overall status of the record paintings local officials participated in. For this, this study looked into local officials' record paintings by dividing four themes into 'Jeonbyeol(餞別) and Doim(到任)', 'duty and event', 'friendship and union, and 'memory of life'. Through this, it showed that the contents about local governor's practices, official events, and inofficial meetings were produced as the record paintings. The record paintings which local governor appeared in was set as an area to be used as the data of studies on traditional attire, ceremony, folk customs, and art. The last chapter of the study examined the record paintings of local governor in Yeongnam(嶺南) area separately. The number of such cases is not a few, but information of Jowamok(座目) and figures is exact, and it seems to be the record paintings or memorial paintings to record local governor's intention to increase human relationship. The contents of the pictures are about planning, inspections and gatherings, and Sigwan(試官), and it is noticeable data in that it is locally made record painting not from the center. Local governors' record paintings make range of Korean record paintings wide and diverse, and they are useful data to understand folk customs their official and personal life and surrounding manners. The study purposed to examine the characteristics of bureaucratic society in Joseon Dynasty where local governor considered meeting and connection, and friendship and unity, from the perspective of customary practice and visualized record.
