초록

The current study aims to verify the validity of SPI-Ⅲ(Special Personality Inventory-Ⅲ) and PAI-A(Adolescent Personality Assessment Inventory) which are used as tools of mental health screening assessment by the Korean juvenile justice system for the prediction of rule violation by juvenile offenders. To do so, this study examined 60 inmates consisting of 30 males and 30 females to analyze the correlation between experience in punishment, the number of punishments and the score of SPI-Ⅲ, PAI-A sub-scales. The inmates were grouped by the number/frequency of punishments (twice) and the difference of scores in each group was compared. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to verify sub-scales used for the prediction of the number of punishments. As a result, SPI-Ⅲ is independent of both the disciplinary punishment and the number of punishments. It also could not display a significant explanation for a prediction of the number of punishments. On the other hand, the AGG sub-scale of PAI-A showed that the punishment experience have positive correlation. The number of punishments displayed the association between the INF, ANT, ALC and AGG subscale scores. Also, the ALC sub-scale of PAI-A was verified as a factor for juvenile inmates to predict the number of disciplinary punishment. This study is meaningful in the respect that we examined whether the tools of youth mental health screening assessment, which are currently used in the juvenile justice system, have a relevance to predict behavioral infractions in the juvenile correctional facility or not.
