사회과교육을 받은 인간: 사회과교육의 관점에 관한 재고찰

본 연구는 사회과에서 교수도 학습도 제대로 일어나지 않는다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 이 점에서 본 연구는 사회과교육에 관한 관점을 재고찰하고, 그 관점들이 추구하는 ‘사회과교육을 받은 인간’을 재조명하며, 관점 정립의 중요성을 강조한다. 그리고 이에 기초하여 사회 교과의 존재 이유로서의 우리가 길러내야 할 인간상을 제안하고 그에 따른 교사교육과 교육과정 및 교수법에 대한 시사점을 제공하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 사회과교육에 관한 관점을 문화유산 전수, 사회과학 탐구, 개인 발달, 반성적 탐구, 사회 변혁 관점으로 규명하고, 각 관점이 사회과교육을 받은 인간으로 순응적 기능인, 사회과학적 탐구자, 사회적 자아실현인, 반성적 의사결정자, 변혁적 실천가를 추구하는 것으로 밝힌다. 이러한 분석에 기초하여 본 연구는 변혁적 실천가를 길러내는 것을 목적으로 하고, 반성적 탐구를 그 목적에 부합하는 수단으로 삼는 사회과교육이 되어야 함을 강조한다. 그리고 그에 따른 교사 교육, 교육과정과 교수법, 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 제공한다.

This study starts from the awareness of problem that teaching and learning do not occur in social studies classrooms, revisits the perspectives on social studies education, and explores ‘the educated person in social studies’ which each perspective expects through teaching social studies. Based on this review, this study distinguishes the perspectives on social studies education as transmission of cultural heritage, social scientific inquiry, individual development, reflective inquiry, and social transformation. And this study identifies conformist functional person, social scientific inquirer, social self-actualizer, reflective decision maker, and transformative vanguardist as‘the educated person in social studies.’Finally, this study emphasizes social studies education of which goal is to foster transformative vanguardist and method is reflective inquiry. And this study makes suggestions for teacher education, curriculum and teaching, and further research.
