본 연구의 목적은 엘프리데 옐리넥의 소설 『피아노 치는 여자 Die Klavierspielerin』(1983)에서 주인공 에리카가 어머니의 억압적인 양육 태도로 인해 자기 몸 상해, 강박, 가피학적 행동을 보이는 배경을 그녀의 내면 서사를 토대로 탐색하고 이에 대한 문학치료적 대안을 제시하는 데 있다. 에리카가 자기의 몸에 상해를 하는 행동은 서사 중 4개의 장면에서 두드러지게 서술되고 있으며, 에리카의 이러한 행동의 배경에는 서사를 근거로 분석을 해보았을 때 모녀간의 과도한 애착과 어머니의 억압적인 양육 태도에서 비롯되었다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 에리카의 자기 몸 상해의 행동들이 악화 일로에 놓여있는 것으로 간주하고 이에 대한 근본적인 원인을 에리카의 내면 서사를 통해 밝히되 그에 대한 문학치료적 개입에 대한 제안도 하고자 한다. 아울러 본 연구에서 다루는 에리카의 자기 몸 상해의 과정들의 근원들은 우선 첫째, 유년기부터 성인기에 이르기까지 어머니의 철저한 감시와 통제로 인해 제대로 형성되지 못한 관계 형성의 실패가 가피학적 행동으로 발전되었다고 본다. 둘째, 에리카는 ‘자기의 몸에 대한 소유권’을 스스로 가지려는 충동으로 자기의 몸을 상해하는 행동을 한다. 마지막으로 에리카가 보이는 자기 몸 상해의 행동들은 우울이나 강박, 가피학적 행동, 관음 등과도 복합적으로 관련되어 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 에리카의 자기 몸 상해 행동이 제1장에서 제 8장까지의 소설 전체의 내면 서사 분석을 통해 그녀의 이러한 행동들이 어디에서 시작되었으며, 이러한 행동을 어떻게 완화할 수 있는지를 문학치료적으로 제안한다. 이러한 문학치료적 제안들, 즉 에리카가 유년기부터 억압되어 온 소망들을 소급하여 ‘재경험’함으로써 에리카와 유사한 자기 몸 상해 행동을 하는 내담자들을 행동을 이해하고 지원하는 데 유의미한 사례가 될 수 있기를 기대한다.
The purpose of this study is to explore the background that the main character Erica in Die Klavierspielerin(1983) as Elfriede Jelinek’s novel shows self-injury, compulsion, sadomasochistic behavior due to a mother’s repressive rearing attitude based on her internal narrative and to suggest a literary therapeutic alternative to this. The behavior that Erica harms her own body is being prominently described in four scenes out of the narrative. In the wake of having made an analysis on the basis of the narrative, the background in Erica’s this behavior can be known to have originated from the excessive attachment between mother and daughter and from the mother’s oppressive upbringing attitude. Hence, this study is aimed to propose the literary therapeutic intervention in it with clarifying the underlying cause of this through the internal narrative while regarding Erica’s self-injury behaviors as getting worse. Furthermore, as to Erica’s sources in self-injury procedures of being addressed in this study, for one thing, a failure in relationship formation, which failed to be made properly because of mother’s thorough surveillance and control from childhood to adulthood, is seen to have developed into sadomasochistic behavior. Second, Erica behaves in injuring her body owing to the impulse to take ‘ownership of her body’ herself. Finally, the self-injury behaviors that Erica demonstrates are complexly related even to depression or compulsion, sadomasochistic behavior, voyeurism. Accordingly, this study is made a literary therapeutic proposal on from where her these behaviors began and how these behaviors can be alleviated through parsing the inner narrative of the whole novel from Chapter 1 to Chapter 8 with regard to Erica’s self-injury behaviors. These literary therapeutic suggestions, namely, the ‘re-experiences’ by casting back the wishes that Erica has been suppressed since childhood are expected to be capable of becoming a significant case in understanding and supporting self-inflicted clients similar to Erica.
