본 연구에서는 2003-2018년 기간 동안 중국의 대선진국 FDI 자료를 이용하여 FDI유입이 현지국 투자유발효과 이론에 따라 중국의 대선진국 FDI가 선진국 경제발전에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석을 위해 선진국 인적자본, 금융발전, 천연자원 및 첨단제품 수출변수와 중국의 FDI와의 각각 상호 작용변수를 이용하였다. 이를 통해 중국의 대 선진국 FDI가 선진국 경제발전에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 일반적으로 개발도상국이 선진국에 대한 FDI의 동인은 선진국의 인적자본과 첨단기술 및 안정적인 금융발전 등의 혜택을 보기 위함이다. 분석결과 이 세 가지 요인이 작용한 중국의 대선진국 FDI는 선진국 경제발전에 기여한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 몇 가지 시사적인 관점이 있다. 즉 개발도상국은 선진국에 대한 FDI가 자국의 이익을 충족할 뿐 아니라 이 투자과정에서 선진국의 경제발전에 기여한다는 것이다. 경제발전 정도가 다른 국가간의 FDI를 통한 경제협력은 쌍방의 이익에 부합된다. 따라서 호혜적인 투자 메커니즘을 전개하여 모두가 이익을 얻는 결과를 실현하기 위한 국가 간에 FDI정책을 추진해야 할 것이다.

This paper analyzed data on outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) from China to developed countries over a period of 16 years, from 2003 to 2018. Based on our hypothesis that there are certain factors in a host country that motivate other countries to invest in it, we determined the impact of OFDI from China on the economic development of receiving developed countries. To that end, we incorporated variables accounting for human capital, financial development, natural resources, and high-tech export variables of developed countries into a model, in the form of interaction terms with Chinese OFDI. It is generally believed that the main motivation underlying OFDI from developing to developed countries is the quest for human capital, high-tech products, and stable financial development. The results of our analyses indicate that OFDI from developing countries also promotes the economic development of the receiving developed countries. This is in line with common-sense views on the motivation behind developing countries engaging in OFDI activities in developed countries. Our results also emphasize that OFDI from developing to developed countries does not only serve the interests of the investor but also contributes to the economic development of the receiver. Economic cooperation between economies with different levels of economic development facilitates the common pursuit of the interests of both parties, and mutually beneficial investment mechanisms should therefore be the direction of economic policy formulation among such countries.
