The Success of 72-hour Barotropic Forecasts in Relation to Mean Flow Patterns

Authors:

Abstract

In a recent article entitled “Automation of 500 mb Forecasts through Successive Numerical Map Analysis” Bo R. Döös (1956) displayed charts showing the geographical distribution of correlations between observed and barotropically-computed height changes for periods of 24, 48, and 72 hours in advance.
