이 논문은 최근 아동ㆍ청소년 독자가 자발적으로 향유하는 이야기인 네이버 웹툰 <하우스키퍼>, <나노리스트>, <캉타우>, <숲속의 담>을 중심으로 SF 웹툰에서의 비인간 청소년 인물의 성격과 역할을 분석하고, 그 의미를 해석한 연구이다. 인물의 성격은 웹툰에서 효과적으로 재현되는 외모에 주의를 기울이며 그들의 신분, 심리, 기능적 특질을 분석하였다. 특히 중심사건의 갈등에 주목하여 비인간 청소년 인물의 욕망 및 역할을 심층적으로 분석하고, 그 상징 및 사회문화적 의미에 대해 해석하였다. <하우스키퍼>와 <나노리스트>에서 주인공 AI는 여성 청소년의 신체로 다른 AI들 및 신세대 인간들과 연대하여 부도덕하고 병적인 욕망에 집착한 기성세대 인간들과 대결하며 그들로부터 생명의 위협을 받는 가족(남성 아동ㆍ청소년 인간)을 보호한다. <캉타우>에서 남성 청소년인 주인공 강현은 젊은 세대들이 이끄는 오크타의 선택을 받아 외계 사이보그로 존재 변이를 일으킨다. 강현은 외계 전사가 되어서 압도적인 강인함을 획득한 후, 기성세대들이 이끄는 스펠타의 침략에 맞서 지구를 보호한다. <숲속의 담>에선 신적 능력을 지닌 청소년 주인공 담이 사람들로부터 고립된 삶을 살다가 어른들에게 버림받은 청소년들과 새로운 가족 공동체를 형성하면서 기성세대 적대자를 제거하고 자기 운명을 받아들여 지구를 살리는 존재로 거듭난다. SF 웹툰에서 비인간 청소년은 영웅으로 성장하여 인간 기성세대들의 부당한 폭력에 맞서서 오히려 사람의 생명을 소중히 하고 세상을 구하는 모순을 보인다. 이는 우리 사회에서 청소년에게 가해진 기성세대의 억압을 상징하고, 과학기술 특히 AI에 대한 긍정적 인식과 기대를 반영하며, 기성세대가 해결하지 못한 문제를 청소년 세대가 해결하기 바라는 희망을 나타낸다. 하지만 이 작품들은 새로운 것을 지향하고 긍정하면서도 휴머니즘적이고 남성 중심적인 면이 강하다는 한계가 있다.

This paper analyzed the characteristics and roles of non-human youth characters in SF webtoons and interpreted their meanings, focusing on Naver webtoons, < HouseKeeper > < Nanolist >, < Kantau > and < Dam in the Forest >, which are stories enjoyed voluntarily by children and juvenile readers. With regard to the characteristics of the characters, special attention was paid to the appearance effectively reproduced in webtoons to analyze their identity, psychological, and functional characteristics. In particular, by paying attention to the conflict of the central event, the desires and roles of juvenile characters were analyzed in depth, and the symbols and their socio-cultural meanings were interpreted. In “HouseKeeper” and “Nanolist”, the main character AI has a female body. It confronts older human generations obsessed with immoral and pathological desires in solidarity with other AIs and new human generations to protect families (young boys and youths) whose life is threatened by them. In “Kangtau”, Kang Hyun, the main character, is a teenage boy, and he is mutated into an alien cyborg as a result of the choice of Okta, the younger generation group. After becoming an alien warrior and gaining overwhelming strength, Kang Hyun protects the Earth against the invasion of Spelta, the older generation group. In “Dam in the Forest”, Dam, the main character, is a youth with divine ability, lives an isolated life from people and forms a new family community with teenagers abandoned by adults, eliminating the enemies of the older generation and accepting his fate to save the planet. In SF webtoons, it is ironical that non-human juveniles grow up to be heroes and value human lives and save the world by confronting unfair violence by the older generation. This symbolizes the oppression of the older generation on the younger generation in our society, reflects positive perceptions and expectations of science and technology, especially AI, and represents the hope that the younger generation will solve problems that the older generation has not solved. However, though these works aim for new things and affirm them, they have the llimit of being both anthropocentric and androcentric.
