본 연구의 목적은 한국 관광산업의 지속가능한 발전을 위해 분단국가의 독특한 관광정체성을 확립하고자 DMZ의 관광가치를 분석하였다. 이는 평화와 공존이라는‘평화경제’과제 실현을 앞에 두고 북한 김정은 체제의 핵과 미사일 위협 등으로 DMZ가 동북아 안보 환경에 결박되는 현실, 즉 폐쇄적 장(場)으로 변하는 것을 가정해 하나의 대응방안으로 기획되었다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 관광산업의 발전을 위해 독특한 관광정체성인 DMZ 관광가치를 연구하고자 관련 문헌을 탐색적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 한국의 독특한 관광정체성인 DMZ의 관광가치 확립 방안으로 전 세계 관광객의 관광의식 변화에 따른 ‘평화관광’으로의 대응, 한국의 독특한 정체성인 탈물질주의와 관용성의 DMZ 관광가치로서의 확립, 남북한 교류와 소통의 극대화를 위한 통로(Hub)의 DMZ 관광정체성 확립, 새로운 DMZ 관광가치에 대한 담론의 실천 노력을 제시하였다. 이는 미래 무한 관광경쟁의 시대에 남북한이 생존할 수 있는 지속가능한 전략이 될 것이라고 기대한다. 이런 관점에서 향후 후속연구는 더욱더 다양한 DMZ 관광가치를 밝혀나갈 관광학 측면의 학술 연구와 실증조사가 필요한 시점이다. 이는 DMZ의 지속가능한 보전(保全)과 더 불어 북한 김정은 체제의 핵과 미사일로부터 한반도를 보호(保護)하는 지름길이라는 믿음 때문이다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the tourism value of DMZ to establish unique tourism identity of divided countries for sustainable development of Korean tourism industry. Through this, it aimed to realize the “peaceful economy” task of peace and coexistence. In particular, it was planned as a countermeasure to prevent the DMZ from becoming a closed field in Northeast Asia's security environment due to the North Korean Kim Jong-un regime's nuclear and missile threats. The method of this study explored the relevant literature to study the DMZ tourism value, a unique Korean tourism identity. Through this, it suggested the way to establish the tourism value of DMZ, Korea's unique tourism identity. First, in response to the change in tourism awareness of tourists around the world, let's respond with peace tourism. Second, to establish Korea's unique identity, postmaterialism and tolerance, as DMZ tourism value. Third, to establish tourism identity of DMZ as a hub for maximizing exchange and communication between the two Koreas. Fourth, efforts should be made to practice the new DMZ tourism value. It is hoped that this plan will be a sustainable strategy for the survival of the two Koreas in the age of future infinite tourism competition. From this point of view, future research is the time for academic research and empirical research on the aspects of tourism to reveal more and more diverse DMZ tourism values. This is because of the DMZ's sustainable conservation and the belief that it is a shortcut to protecting the Korean peninsula from North Korea's nuclear and missile regimes.
