The Asian-Oceanian Radiology Forum (AORF), formerly known as the Asian Radiology Forum (ARF), is an event currently organized by the Korean Society of Radiology (KSR) to discuss various topics related to radiology across countries and radiological societies in the Asian-Oceanian region. This forum addresses various topics often overlooked in traditional academic gatherings. For example, AORF topics included “International Education of Radiology in Asian-Oceanian Countries” in 2018, “Screening Programs in Asia” in 2017, and “Promoting Collaboration Among Radiological Societies in the Asian-Oceanian Region” in 2016 [1, 2, 3]. On September 21, 2023, the eighth AORF was held in Seoul as part of the Korean Congress of Radiology, with focus on “The Growing Problem of Radiologist Shortage”.

The Korean Journal of Radiology (KJR) is committed to fostering the exchange of diverse perspectives and ideas within the Asian-Oceanian region and sharing the information to a broader, international readership through our publication.

Previously, KJR sporadically published collective summaries of AORF meetings [1, 2, 3, 4]. Recognizing that this approach may not be timely or as reflective of the unique perspective of each country and radiological society, KJR has now developed a new strategy to publish contributions from individual countries and radiological societies as separate editorial articles. This structured and inclusive approach enables us to more accurately disseminate valuable insights from the Asian-Oceanian region to our global readership. In line with this, we release a series of brief articles on “The Growing Problem of Radiologist Shortage”, featuring contributions from various countries and representative radiological societies, based on the discussions at the eighth AORF, in a few monthly issues.

Both KJR and KSR recognize the importance of fostering academic communication and collaboration among nations and radiological societies in the Asian-Oceanian region and aim to share these insights with our expansive journal readership worldwide [5, 6]. Therefore, in addition to covering AORF meetings, we are committed to sharing unique perspectives from other Asian-Oceanian conferences through publication in our journal [7]. As such, we warmly invite suggestions from national and regional academic representatives for special editorial articles of a similar nature in the future.
