Toward a Man-Less Factory: Higher Level of Automation at New Multi-Purpose Reversing Cold Rolling Mill at Bilstein, Germany

Bilstein built a new high-performance, multi-purpose reversing mill for ultrahigh-strength steel grades with a new category of automation level. Its features include full process automation, fully automatic coil logistics including supply and delivery, optimized power consumption control of the plant, and full control of environmental pollution including noise. Preparations are implemented for IT 4.0 applications such as artificial intelligence and pattern recognition. Plant concept, functional features and first results will be presented.
