State-of-the-Art Converter Technology Proven Features for Longest BOF Lifetime
In basic oxygen furnace steelmaking, there is an increasing requirement for converter vessel and refractories to increase their lifetimes in parallel as a system. This article presents developments and recent implementations of: Maximum inner reaction volume within an existing plant space; suspension system with further improved vertical lamella elements and a new horizontal suspension element based on flat lamella plates to compensate thermal expansion of the vessel by elastic deformation; highly creep-resistant shell material, converter air and water cooling; second generation of temperature monitoring system Q•Temp; and DCMS-Danieli Conditioning Monitoring System (e.g., tilting drive gear components).
