Prediction of Mechanical Properties of Microalloyed Medium-Carbon Wire Rods And Bars

Mechanical properties regardless of steel application are of obvious interest. The main properties sought are usually yield and tensile stresses, elongation and reduction in area to fracture. Some products, and this is the case of wire rods, are also supposed be drawn after hot rolling so that the ability to be cold deformed without fracture is of concern. Predicting mechanical properties within reasonable uncertainty is also therefore of importance. As it will be shown here, reliable models can virtually eliminate the need for mechanical testing, usually time consuming and expensive.
