School-based Obesity Management in the Jungle Regions of Peru and its Implications for Strategic Development

연구목적: 본 연구는 페루 일개 정글지역의 학교 비만관리 현황을 파악하고 이에 따른 개선방안을 도출한 연구이다. 연구의 중요성: 최근 청소년 비만은 전 세계적으로 증가추세에 있으며, 이러한 청소년 비만을 관리하기 위해 일차예방에 효과적인 학교 시스템을 이용한 방법이 필요하다. 연구방법론: 연구대상인 6개 학교를 참여관찰하고 학생, 교사, 학교보건담당 보건인력, 학교보건 전문가를 대상으로 심층면접을 진행하였으며, 수집된 자료는 보건정책, 보건서비스, 보건교육, 보건환경, 파트너십의 학교보건의 5가지 틀을 기초로 분석하였다. 연구결과: 학교 비만관리의 문제점으로는 비만정책 제도 미비 및 관심부족, 비만관리 서비스 부족, 비 체계화된 비만교육, 보건환경 관리 미비, 가정 및 지역사회 파트너십 부재가 분석되었고, 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해서 각 영역에서 필요한 개선방안을 도출하였다. 결론 및 시사점: 학교 비만관리를 위해서 한 가지 중재가 아닌 통합적인 중재가 적용되어야하며, 학교는 청소년 비만을 중재하기 위한 고유한 전략을 가지고 비만관리를 해야 한다.

Purpose: This study presents the current state of school based obesity management of youth in jungle regions of Peru and its implications for strategic development. Originality: The number of youth obesity has been rapidly increased around the world. School-based health management is effective to control youth obesity. Methodology: Data was collected through observation, in-depth interview of students, teachers, and health workers, and expert consultation. State and strategies regarding school-based obesity management was presented by five school health components. Result: This study identified the problems of school-based obesity management such as insufficient evaluation of school health policy, absence of obesity management programs, unsystematic health education, unsanitary and unsafe environment, and lack of parents participation. To overcome these obstacles and strategically expand school based obesity management, strategies were suggested. Conclusion and Implication: Not only each component of school health intervention, but also integrated intervention should be considered to implement school based obesity management. Schools need their own strategy to manage and prevent obesity for youth.
