Outline
Workshop/Arbeitstreffen
In our European mass-production of physicians, also known as medical curricula, the most prevalent student’s outlook is forward:
- Where do I serve my clerkships?
- What do I want to do research on - and with whom?
- What specialty is the one I want to dedicate my life to?
- How do I get to where I want to be in ten years from now?
And many medical students have to figure all of this out the hard way - by themselves. Only for some does it feel natural to look back and guide others through the complicated steps towards becoming a physician.
As medical educators, we keep becoming increasingly professional at providing an ever-growing number of students with knowledge and skills. We plan to create an interactive workshop with you where we explore
- how mentoring can help the individual, the institution and the patient
- the multitude of forms of mentoring including some of our unpublished data about mentoring programs of all German medical faculties with a
- special focus on institutional work required to establish a mentoring project at big universities based on our experience at LMU Medical School of Munich with its 4.000 students.
