「황쳔일긔」는 여성의 저승체험담을 다룬 한글소설로, 고려대 도서관 소장 「사씨남정기」와 합철된 필사본이다. 내용은 만력 갑신년에 죽은 이경중의 부인 유씨가 삼년상을 치른 후 세 명의 여성 차사에게 끌려갔다가 잘못 끌려온 것을 알게 되고 죽은 남편과 부친을 만난 뒤 여러 여자를 만나 전생의 과보에 대해 듣고 돌아오는 저승체험담이다. 「황쳔일긔」에서 주목할 만한 것은 주요 등장인물이 여성이라는 점이니, 주인공이 여성일 뿐 아니라 저승 차사도 여성이고 저승에서 만나는 상당수가 여성으로, 여성에 의해 서사가 진행된다. 여성이 일상 생활에서 범할 수 있는 죄목을 반복적으로 제시하여 여성의 교화를 목적으로 하고 있는 점이 작품 속에서 찾을 수 있는 첫 번째 특징이다. 「황쳔일긔」의 또 다른 특징은 작품 속에 보이는 무속적 상상력이다. 이념적으로 불교적 권선징악 보다는 여성의 소박한 일상 윤리를 강조하고 내용면에서 무당을 불러 저승차사를 대접한다거나 ‘꽃’이 생명의 상징으로 중요하게 등장하는 모습 등은 기존의 저승체험담과 구별되는 지점이다. 「황쳔일긔」의 연구를 통해, 저승체험담의 이념성은 첫째 불교적 윤리관을 담은 부류, 둘째 불교적 외피에 유교적 함의를 지닌 부류, 셋째 유불교 통합으로 권선서의 경향을 보이는 부류와 더불어 무속적 지향성 띠고 있는 부류로 확장할 수 있게 되었다.

Through this study, the ideology of the story of the afterlife was expanded to include those with the Buddhist ethics, those with Confucian connotations in the Buddhist outer skin, and those with the tendency of the Gwon Seonseo as well as those with shamanistic orientation.
