Abstract
Some Tb3+-, Dy3+-, Gd3+-doped, and Tb3+/Dy3+- and Tb3+/ Gd3+-codoped silicate glasses were synthesized by meltquenching. Their luminescence properties were investigated by photoluminescence, X-ray excited luminescence spectra and their corresponding decay curves. It is shown that the enhanced photoluminescence intensity of Tb3+ emission can be achieved by efficient energy transfer from Dy3+ (or Gd3+) to Tb3+ under UV light excitation. However, the X-ray excited luminescence intensity of terbium ions in Tb3+/Gd3+-codoped glass contrasts remarkably to that of the Tb3+/Dy3+-codoped one, where the X-ray excited luminescence intensity of terbium ions is obviously lower than that of the Tb3+-doped one.
