Abstract
HIP processing of aluminium castings eliminates residual porosity. Hence it is known as post densification. Densal® is a new HIP process type, which is characterized by high efficiency and low costs. Densal® is often followed by a separate heat treatment defining the state of the material finally. In the following experimental investigation it will be shown that the fatigue life rises by an order of magnitude in comparison to non hipped but heat treated cast samples. Further improvement can be achieved by linking both processes directly. The new integrated process – called T6 Densal® – is able to produce castings of the same or superior quality compared to the serial process [Densal + T6]. Both the total process time (floor to floor) and the costs will be reduced by about 30%.
