Abstract
The goal of the investigations was to complexly evaluate sugar beet breeding material productivity and technological indices and to select competitive hybrids. The object of the investigations was comparison of simple and trial domestic hybrids of sugar beet with the group standards of the foreign hybrids: Mitika (Lion Seeds) and Dubravka (KWS). The investigations included a field experiment, laboratory analysis of sugar beet using the Betalyser computer-aided line. The analysis comprised 111 domestic hybrids, including 26 simple and 85 trial ones. Based on the complex evaluation of sugar beet breeding material according to productivity and technological quality, four simple and six trial hybrids with high values of sugar content and predicted sugar output were selected, which exceeded or were at level of the group standard in beet root yield and white sugar yield. The trial hybrid nos. 1262 and 1264 are worthy of special attention since they exceed the group standard in sugar content by 0.55 and 0.60% absolute, predicted factory sugar output by 0.48 and 0.63% absolute, beet root yield by 6.89 and 22.77%, and white sugar yield by 10.10 and 27.69%, respectively. The chosen promising sugar beet hybrids are suggested to breeders for further work.
