This paper presents results on kraft pulping of Giant Leucaena (Leucaena latisiliqua) wood.
The sample used is approximately two-year-old wood, and one of fast growing species in the Philippines.
The results of pulping test are given in Tabl 2. The wood was essentialy well cooked by ordinal cooking conditions. Delignification of the chip, however, was rather difficult, and the yield and strength properties of the pulps showed rather high values in comparison with beech wood.
It is considered that various range of mix-cooking of Giant leucaena and beech wood are suitable for production of kraft pulp for papermaking.
Data on the effect of methanol extraction for colour reversion of bleached pulps are shown in Table 6. From the results presented above, it was confirmed that the extractives remaining in the bleached pulps adversely affected on the colour reversion.
